Goeff Harter,
Town Board

Geoff Harter, Town Council

Goeff first established roots in the Ossining community when he and his wife moved to Briarcliff Manor in 1980. He and his wife Suzy, moved the Village of Ossining in 1984, where they raised their two children, David and Kimberly (Cowan). Goeff has long been active in the community as a coaching for local youth sports; a member of Ossining Post 506, American Legion; a former member of the Briarcliff Rotary Club; and most recently as Deacon in the Briarcliff Congregational Church. Goeff recently retired from Pace University after 33 years as a Chief Administrator.

Goeff was elected to the Town Council in 1991 and has served continuously in that position for 20 years. In recognition of his abilities and dedication, Goeff was appointed Deputy Town Supervisor under four Town Supervisors, including the current Supervisor, Catherine Borgia. Goeff has always been an active and important member of the Town Board. Because of this, Goeff was selected to re-vitalize the Recreation Advisory Committee after several years of inactivity. Under Goeff’s stewardship, the Committee is now a vibrant and essential organization which advocates for Town and Village parks and recreation keeping them the “jewels” of the Ossining community. His work has resulted in significant improvements in the facilities and programs open to the community including; after school programs; construction of a new pavilion at Cedar Lane Park; the addition of Sally Swope Sitting Park; renovation of the basketball and tennis courts at Nelson Park; improvements at Veterans Park, Snowden Park and the renovation of Wishne Park. Perhaps the most important improvements to Louis Engel park and construction of the indoor swimming pool at the Ossining recreation center.

Goeff has a proven record of fiscal responsibility, innovation, leadership and the ability to seek and achieve consensus during his 20 years in service to the Town. He is currently energized and focused on major Town Board projects including review and compliance with the Town Comprehensive Plan; the smooth implementation of the Westchester County Police contract; and study of alternative forms and options for governance of the Village and Town of Ossining, including efficiencies and innovative sharing of services.
